It’s been a while—10 months, to be exact. I almost forgot what it feels like to hit “send” on a newsletter until now. But I’m back. A little more rested. A little more clear. And definitely with more stories to tell.
Today, I want to talk about something that’s been on my mind a lot lately.
Let’s be honest: Public Relations seems built for extroverts. Loud ideas, bold campaigns, spotlight moments, and elevator pitches delivered with perfect charisma.
And for someone like me, who loves the work but doesn’t always love the noise, that used to feel intimidating.
But here’s what I’ve come to realize after a few years of doing this work across 11+ countries and countless time zones:
You don’t need to be loud to be heard.
In fact, the best PR pros I know are thoughtful. Intentional. Quietly strategic. They build trust behind the scenes. They write stories that stick. They write with clarity.
So if you’ve ever felt like you need to become someone louder or more “on” to succeed in this field—pause. Let’s talk about how being quiet can actually be your PR superpower.
Being Quiet Is Not a Weakness. It’s a Strategy.
Some of the best media relationships I’ve built came from listening more than I spoke. Some of the strongest client work happened because I asked the right questions—not because I had the flashiest pitch.
And some of my best content came not from brainstorming on a whiteboard, but from quietly observing how people communicate, where they get stuck, and what they’re really trying to say.
PR isn’t just about attention. It’s about connection.
3 Tools Quiet Professionals Should Always Carry
1. A strong written voice: Your writing is your presence. Use it to shape narratives, express clarity, and communicate value even when you’re not in the room.
2. A consistent rhythm: Instead of showing up loudly once in a while, build a quiet rhythm of pitching, sharing, and creating. Consistency is credibility.
3. Thoughtful visibility: You don’t have to be everywhere. You just need to be where it matters. Be intentional about the platforms you show up on—and what you bring to the conversation when you do.
A Note for PR Pros Who Like to Stay in the Background
I see you. Some days, I am you. And let me say: PR needs more voices like yours.
You don’t have to overperform, overexplain, or overshare. You just have to show up with purpose.
Quiet professionals shape some of the loudest movements. Don’t underestimate the impact of doing things your way.
That’s all for this edition.
